A Brief Biography of Brian
Brian Gibson came to El Segundo in 1978 to begin
designing and building electronics for communications satellites at
Hughes Space and Communications Group. Twenty seven years later he retired
early from what had become the Boeing Satellite Development Center in
order to give the residents of the 36th Congressional District
a better choice for Congress.
Both Brian and his wife, Patricia, were born and
raised in Des Moines, Iowa. Brian first came to Southern
California to obtain a BS in Physics at Caltech. After graduation he married Pat, and
they went off to the University
of Illinois to earn their
PhD’s in Physics and Population Biology, respectively.
They have two children who went through the El Segundo
Public School system. John is now
at El Camino and plans to teach Math and Science to fourth- and
fifth-graders. Katie is at the University
of Colorado where she is
majoring in economics.
A family man first, Brian was an Assistant Scoutmaster
with El Segundo’s Troop 773 Boy Scouts, an assistant leader with El
Segundo’s Troop 34 Girl Scouts, and a leader in the AWANA clubs (a Bible
club for boys and girls) at the Evangelical Free Church of Redondo Beach
and Journey of Faith Church in Manhattan Beach. He was also a volunteer in El Segundo’s
youth environmental organization, Tree Musketeers.
The Gibsons are members at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian
Church in Redondo Beach,
where Brian served as both a Deacon and an Elder. They currently worship at El Segundo
Foursquare Church.
In order to be a more effective candidate and ultimately
to serve the people of the 36th Congressional District better
as their representative, Brian started Trinity Law School in Santa Ana shortly
before he retired. Brian will complete
law school and receive his Juris Doctor in May 2008. He plans to take the California
bar examination in July and while waiting for the results earn your vote.
